ChessWised is an original chess variant that brings in mechanics from big strategy games. The basic rules stay the same, but before each game both players shape their part of the island, build an army and place obstacles, and during play each side sees only what its pieces can see.

Where it stands
The game is live. You can play with two players on one screen or online, from the public lobby or by inviting a friend, without creating an account.
Vision
ChessWised is a bit like a sequel to chess. It keeps what is best about the game, clear rules and fair competition, and adds decisions known from strategy games: the shape of the board, the make-up of your army and where you put obstacles are your first move, before the first piece moves.
Future layers will extend the variant: terrain that changes how pieces move, water to go around, roads that let pieces travel faster, and eventually seasons that change the rules on the board.
